Strathfield Heritage Lists

A frequent request to the Strathfield District Historical Society is for information about heritage lists and histories of properties as Strathfield is known for its' rich history and significant heritage buildings.  

The attached list is the items and areas listed by Strathfield Council on their Local Environmental Plan.  Go to Heritage List [PDF File].

This list is current as April 2003 but is subject to change or alteration.  Always obtain official confirmation of heritage status of properties from Strathfield Council or the appropriate authority.  Strathfield District Historical Society takes no responsibility for alterations or omissions to this list or any decisions taken on the basis of this information, though every effort has been made to ensure the information is correct.

NSW Statutory Heritage Lists

State Heritage Register – denotes item is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register. Administered by NSW Heritage Office.  More details: www.heritage.nsw.gov.au

Strathfield Council LEP – denotes item has been gazetted as a heritage item under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 as Strathfield Local Environmental Plan [LEP] No.85.  This LEP is attached as a schedule to the Strathfield Planning Scheme Ordinance.

Strathfield Council LEP [Conservation Area] – denotes item is located within a heritage conservation area as gazetted under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 as Strathfield Local Environmental Plan [LEP] No.85. This LEP is attached as a schedule to the Strathfield Planning Scheme Ordinance.


Non-Statutory Lists

RAIA Register – denotes item is listed on the Royal Australian Institute of Architects [RAIA] register of Twentieth Century Significant Buildings as assessed by the RAIA. RAIA Register is not legally binding but influential in determining heritage status as the basis of the inclusion on this Register is assessment of high architectural and design merit.

National Trust Classification – denotes item has been classified by National Trust, a independent and community based organisation that identifies buildings and sites it considers worthy of conservation.  The National Trust [NSW] Register is the oldest list of heritage items. Whilst inclusion of an item on this Register does not have statutory force, it is acknowledged as an important indicator of heritage significance and is often the basis for listing items on the State Heritage Register and local lists.  For more information on the National Trust:  www.nationaltrust.org.au
