Federation Housing Styles of Strathfield

There are many examples of Federation Housing in Strathfield, particularly in heritage conversation areas such as Redmyre Rd Strathfield, Churchill Ave Strathfield, Homebush Rd Strathfield and Abbotsford Rd Homebush.

 

'Nangur' 27 Homebush Rd Strathfield

Built 1900 for Mrs Annie Mander Jones, widow of the son of David Jones.  This home is heritage listed on Strathfield Council's Local Environment Plan.

 

 

'Badgally' Abbotsford Rd Strathfield

'Badgally' is located in the Abbotsford Rd Heritage Conservation Area.  It was built c.1911 for bootmaker, John Johns.  In its' original design, it included a carport, which was highly unusual for this period.

 

 

'Dagworth' 39 Homebush Rd Strathfield

Built c.1899 for James Hoskins MP by local builder Robert Finch.  It is one of a series of fine Federation homes located within the Homebush Rd Heritage Conservation Area. 

 

 

'Huntingtower' Homebush Rd Strathfield

Built 1900 for Railway Commissioner William Fehon by local builder Robert Finch.  It is one of a series of fine Federation homes located within the Homebush Rd Heritage Conservation Area.  '

 

 

'Waratah' 37 Homebush Rd

'Waratah' was built for William Arnott by local builder Robert Finch.  This home shared a boundary fence with Arnott's home in Albert Rd.  Later 'Waratah' became the school 'Branxton'.  Today it is a private residence.

 

 

'Glennifer Brae' Churchill Avenue Strathfield

'Glennifer Brae' is heritage listed on Strathfield Council's Local Environment Plan. This section of Churchill Avenue was subdivided as the 'King's Estate' in 1903. Churchill Avenue was once known as The Avenue but renamed after WWII for British wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Churchill Avenue is a heritage conservation area.
