Davey Reserve and Davey Square Memorial

Beresford, Rochester and Coventry Roads Homebush

Named in honour of George Davey, Mayor of Strathfield [1926-27] and Managing Director of flour millers Edwin Davey & Co.  Strathfield Council purchased this land in order to develop a park in the 1920’s, which were apparently occupied by a row of derelict old wooden buildings

Davey Square Memorial is a small surplus area left over after the alteration of the road design.  This reserve contains War Memorials formerly located on the corner of Parramatta and Wentworth Rds, Homebush but moved to Davey Square in 1978.  This War Memorial commemorates the local men who served in the Great War [1914-1918], Second World War [1939-45], Korean War [1950-1954] and Vietnam War [1962-72].
