William AFFLECK [1836-1923]

Storekeeper, contractor and NSW Parliament MLA - Member for Yass 1894-1904.  Lived at 'Gundaroo' Homebush Rd Strathfield. 

ALBERT ALLEN

Shopkeeper of Druitt Town and Alderman [1885-1913] & Mayor [1889, 1891, 1893-94] of Strathfield Council.

ARNOTT FAMILY

The Arnott Biscuit Factory was located at Homebush for many decades.  Many members of the Arnott family resided in Strathfield.

Col. John Maclean ARNOTT

Managing Director of Arnott’s Biscuits, lived at ‘Birnam Wood’ [now demolished].  Col. Arnott married Adeline Hardy, daughter of John Hardy. Col. Arnott fought in WWI and appears on the Strathfield Council Roll of Honour Board.

Percival [Percy] Sinclair ARNOTT

Percy Arnott [1899-1950] Director of Arnott’s Biscuits, lived at ‘Wawona’ 96 Albyn Rd.  Percy Arnott was a renowned sportsman and played cricket for NSW.

Wallace [Wally] ARNOTT

Solicitor and biscuit manufacturer. Wally Arnott lived in Llandilo Avenue.

William ARNOTT

Founder of Arnott’s Biscuits, lived at ‘Arnottholme’ Albert Road Strathfield.

John Hope BALMAIN

Surveyor and Town Clerk of Strathfield Municipality

Warren BARDSLEY [1882-1954]

Australian Test Cricketer, who played in Tests between 1909 to 1926.  Bardsley was Captain of the Australian Team in 1926.  Lived in Redmyre Rd, Strathfield [home now demolished]. 

Joseph BARLING [1839-1921]

Under-secretary of NSW Works and Chairman of NSW Public Service Board.  Married Margaret Vernon, sister of Donald Vernon [NSW Railway Traffic Manager and prominent early resident of Strathfield].  Barling lived at 'Salve' Albert Rd [now the site of Sydney Adventist College].

W. Haughton BELL

Architect and Alderman Strathfield Council. Bell articled to architect Edmund Blackett.  Bell went into partnership with architect William Gratus Coward and designed a number of important buildings including:  St Anne's Church of England Parsonage [now private residence Vernon St Strathfield] and the All Souls' Church of England Parsonage Leichhardt.

Professor Francis BLAND

Professor of Economics Sydney University and MLA NSW Parliament.  

Frederick BODEN

Frederick Boden was elected as an Alderman to Strathfield Council in a by-election caused by the death of Alderman Joseph Airey in March 1924.  The by-election was held on 10th May 1924.  He served on Strathfield Council until his death in July 1933. Boden lived at 'Sunny Brae'  Albert Rd Strathfield.  Boden Avenue and Boden Reserve in Strathfield are named for him.

George BRESSINGTON

Mayor of Homebush. Bressington Park is named for him.

John Spenser BRUNTON

Flourmiller.  Family business Australian Flour Mills at Granville.  Built ‘Brunyarra’ now Santa Maria Del Monte.

David BUCHANAN [1823?-1890]

Member of NSW Parliament.  Buchannan lived at ‘Clareinnis’ The Boulevarde [now demolished]. Further biographical details go to NSW Parliament.

Walter BURFITT [1874-1956]

Prominent surgeon, lived at ‘Radstoke’ in Malvern Crescent Strathfield. Resident medical officer, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital 1900; general practice, Glebe 1901-12; consultant surgeon, Macquarie Street 1912-40; surgeon and later gynaecologist, Lewisham Hospital 1901-40; medical officer, St Vincent's Hospital from 1901 and at the diphtheria clinic of the Royal Alexandra Hospital for children and visiting surgeon, Parramatta District and Western Suburbs hospitals; retired 1944. Founding member, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons 1928; founder and sometime president, Medical Benevolent Association of New South Wales; founder and sometime chairman, Hospital Almoners' Guild. Commemorated by Walter Burfitt Prize, Royal Society of New South Wales and Walter Burfitt Scholarship in physics or chemistry, University of Sydney. Walter Verney BUZACOTT [1877-1950]

Son of industrialist Walter Sewell Buzacott of hardware merchants Buzacott & Co.  In 1906, he married Mildred Todman [d.1922], daughter of tobacco merchant George Todman.  Buzacott lived at 'Winkurra' cnr Florence & Elwin Sts, which was built c.1906.  Buzacott served as an Alderman on Strathfield Council from 1916-1920 and died in 1950 aged 73.

NSW Parliamentarian lived at ‘Merriwa’ Albert Road Strathfield [now demolished, Allenby Crescent stands in it’s place].

Charles CAPPER

Mayor of Strathfield [1911-12] & Alderman [1907-1914]

Thomas COOKE

Mayor of Enfield Council 1941-6, 1948.  Cooke was a builder and resided at Lennartz St Enfield.  He served as an Alderman for over 20 years.  Died in 1961.  Cooke Park Belfield is named for him.

William COOTE

Jeweller of Agnes & Coote lived at ‘Tusmore’ 10 Kingsland Rd Strathfield.

William COWARD [d.1894]

Architect and Alderman of Strathfield Council [1888-1891].

John CURNOW

Alderman and Mayor of Strathfield [1925]

George DAVEY

Flour miller and Mayor of Strathfield.  Lived at 'Koorianda' 5-7 Broughton Rd Homebush.

W W DAVIS

Lived at 'Mignon' The Crescent Homebush West.  Davis was a pianotuner and represented the Flemington Ward on Strathfield Council as an Alderman. 

Alan DAVIDSON

Test Cricketer and Australian Cricket Selector. Long term resident of Strathfield.

Brian DOE

Blacksmith, real estate agent and Member of NSW Parliament.  Lived at Redmyre Road Strathfield.

William FEHON

NSW Commissioner of Railways, lived at ‘Huntingtower’ Homebush Rd Strathfield.

Ebenezer FORD

Mayor of Enfield.  Lived at ‘Telara’ at Wakeford Rd Strathfield.

Emil FORD

Solicitor.  Son of Ebenezer Ford, father of solicitor Harvey Ford [Mayor of Strathfield].  Established legal firm Emil Ford & Co.  Lived in Wakeford Rd.

Frederick Percy FORD

Chairman of David Jones.  Ford married Clarissa Jones, daughter of David Jones. Lived in Florence St Strathfield.

Frank FORDE
