Strathfield District Historical SocietyAccess to Collections Policy Strathfield District Historical Society’s (SDHS) collection and archives have been acquired and maintained by members since the establishment of the Society in 1978. The collection includes books, newsletters, journals [including from other Historical Societies, photographs, ephemera [eg pamphlets, local election material], maps, newspaper clippings and property histories on file [eg some certificates of title, deposited plans]. Donations or additions to the collection are always appreciated. As some of the SDHS Collection will be stored in the Local Studies Room of the Strathfield Library, a policy has been developed for access by members and non-members. To ensure that the archives are safeguarded, access is generally limited to members of the Society. All members will be issued with a membership card which must be presented to allow access. Some access will be permitted by non-members but this will require permission and supervision at all times. SDHS Members Access to Society records held in the Strathfield Library will require presentation of a valid membership card to staff. Members will be issued with a membership card on request. SDHS Members can borrow books from the collection for the period of one month. Borrowing details must be recorded before removing item from collection. A file for recording borrowings and returns will be kept in the SDHS cabinet in the Local Studies Room. All other materials eg files, photographs, maps can not be removed from the collection. However, materials can be viewed by members in the Library and copies eg photocopies or scans can be made for private use only. SDHS Members will be able to access the Local Studies Room, where the collections are held, when the Room is open. On occasions where the Room is closed, please request access from Library staff. A membership card will be required to obtain access. SDHS Non-Members Use of materials including viewing by non-members requires permission of SDHS Secretary and supervision will be required. A register of access of non-members will be maintained including contact details.
